With all of the products offered on the market, it’s hard to keep track of what’s what. We’ve compiled a simple list that explains the difference between different kinds of Dermal Fillers. What works for one person, may not be ideal for another.
We pride ourselves on offering all types of fillers. This guarantees that our patients leave with results suitable to their needs.
There are many other types of filler rejuvenation available. Below is a list of common filler options:
PMMA has a long history of safe use in many other medical applications, including hip replacement implants and skull plates. It functions as a support matrix for natural collagen production, typically resulting in natural, enduring regeneration as wrinkles are filled and facial contours are restored. In Canada, Bellafill is the only recognized PMMA Dermal Filler. Results last 5+ years.
Solely Collagen injections have lost their place in the market. Current products seek to increase your own collagen production, rather than simply injecting it. Collagen is a natural protein found in your cartilage, bones and teeth. Fillers made with collagen are sourced from human, bovine, or porcine tissue. They can be used to fill facial contours with results typically lasting about 3 months. There are no commercial purely collagen fillers currently available in the United States or Canada.
Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of your skin and joints. It has been used for years as a treatment for arthritis. In addition, it has become one of the most popular wrinkle fillers. When used to correct facial wrinkles and folds, an HA filler typically lasts 6 months to 1 year. Most common products: Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane.
Calcium hydroxylapatite is a mineral compound found in human bones and teeth. Fillers made with this compound consist of calcium-based microspheres, which stimulate collagen, in a water-based gel. As one of the heaviest facial fillers, calcium hydroxylapatite is typically used to fill the deep creases and folds. Most common product: Radiesse
Polymer fillers are made with synthetic material. When injected, this substance stimulates a gradual process of collagen production. Unlike other dermal fillers, polymers don’t provide immediate results. Rather, they require a series of treatments that gradually stimulate collagen production. Most common product: Sculptra
Autologous fat grafting: Fat taken from the one place of the body and used to treat wrinkles or augment specific other areas of body. The procedure, known as fat grafting, involves a more extensive treatment than other fillers because the fat must be extracted first.
Skin rejuvenation treatments with dermal fillers are quick, simple, comfortable, and non-surgical. The procedure will have you looking and feeling instantly refreshed. The treatment administered by Dr. Michael Kam involves subtle and strategically placed injections under the skin to restore and boost individual facial features.
Fillers will add volume and definition to facial features while keeping your appearance looking natural, symmetrical, and well-balanced. Whether you are interested in enhancing facial features or refreshing and rejuvenating your appearance, dermal fillers can be used to:
Depending on the treatment, the appearance of lines on your face will be reduced, your lips will appear fuller and more defined, and your cheeks plump. You will leave looking naturally refreshed – so that everyone will notice, but no one will know!
Refresh and Rejuvenate
Dermal fillers can instantly refresh and rejuvenate your appearance by smoothing unwanted lines, restoring natural contours and replacing lost cheek volume. Product is placed beneath wrinkles and folds to ‘fill in’ or ‘plump up’ the depression. The most appropriate lines to treat with dermal fillers are those that are described as static lines you can see when your face is not moving (like smile lines). The most commonly treated areas include smile lines (or nasolabial folds), mouth lines (or marionette lines), smoker lines (or vertical lip lines), cheeks or chin.
Enhancement
Dermal filler injections can also be used as facial fillers to enhance some of your facial features, such as lips and cheeks. With subtle and strategically-placed injections, fillers will contour and define lips and cheeks, at the same time keeping your appearance natural-looking, symmetrical and well-balanced.
