What is BOTOX/DYSPORT?
Botox and Dysport are a treatment for wrinkles caused by repeated movements.
Is it Safe?
It has been proven to be very safe when administered correctly by a physician with experience in botox cosmetics. Botox cosmetic is an approved drug used to treat patients for cosmetic wrinkles. One of Dr. Kam’s specialties is in the administration of Botox/Dysport, and in his experienced hands, the procedure will be done safely and result in significant cosmetic improvement.
What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?
Both are the same product botulinum toxin A, made by different companies. Both are a derived protein that works by relaxing targeted muscles. The Dysport protein is slightly smaller, so results are observed in less time.
How long does the procedure take?
Generally, after the consultation, the procedure only takes up to 15 minutes. Since there is no downtime – you can do it on your lunchtime – and no one would know you have had it done!
How quickly does it work?
It can take UP TO 2 weeks for it to take full effect. Usually patients are asked to wait for the 14 days to pass in order to fully see the results. Typically results are seen in 3-10 days with Botox and in 1-5 days with Dysport.
How long will it last? Is it Permanent?
No – neuromodulators are not permanent. It lasts between 3-4 months on average, but everyone is different. With regular treatment, results can last from 6-8 months.
Does it hurt?
Most patients say the injections feel similar to a little pinch, although everyone is different. Patients often report that the the pain was incredibly minimal. The needle used to administer the product is finer than a human hair.
Is it going to be worse when it wears off?
No! Your face will never get worse if you discontinue using the products or when it wears off. Botox/Dysport “stop/ slow” the clock of aging. When you stop getting treatments, the “aging clock” resumes like normal. At the very minimum, you will simply return to where you started. If you use Botox/Dysport for a number of years and then stop – your muscles learn to relax and therefore, you will end up looking a little better than when you originally started.
How much does it cost?
The cost of treatment varies by each patient and a personal consultation can give you a specific amount. Treatments generally start at $100 and go up from there depending on the areas being treated.
I don’t want to look like a mask without expression – will that happen?
No. Dr. Kam ensures you get the look you want – as natural as you want. Most people simply want to look natural, relaxed, and refreshed, without looking “done”. In the experienced hands of Dr. Kam – patients typically say that no one knows that they have had anything done.
What are the side effects?
Side effects are RARE and are NOT PERMANENT. Rarely, there can be some minor bruising (which is easily covered up with makeup) or a slight short term headache. Most patients do not experience any side effects at all.
Where does it go in my body?
Botox/Dysport stays local to the muscle where it was injected. After the injection, the product is simply metabolised and broken down into natural byproducts within a few hours.
